Going With the Flow- Whitewater Rafting on the Lehigh River

This weekend I once again visited the Lehigh Gorge State Park, but this time for some whitewater rafting during a dam release weekend. We rafted 12 miles in the Lower Lehigh Gorge, maneuvering rocks and currents and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Our team was very enthusiastic and not at all camera shy....

Afterwards, we went to historic Jim Thorpe and ate at the charming restaurant Flow located in an 1800 stone mill with a creek flowing beneath it. They serve locally grown fresh foods "farm to table". The building is also the art gallery for local artist Victor Stabin.

The pretty flower gardens outside on the patio where we ate dinner were in full bloom.

Nothing better on a hot day, Anne. You all look like you are having a great time. I will have to check that park out some time if I am up that way, plus that restaurant sounds just great.

I like your blog. It is really cool to see your pictures and to enjoy reading about things other people who love the outdoors are doing. Thanks for sharing. Art

Nature is so incredible, Anne. There is so much out there, as you know.

I am thinking of using your blog as inspiration to start a second blog about some of my hikes. I don't go as often as I would like to, so maybe if I am blogging about it I will see a post showing I have not had a hike in a few weeks and use that as motivation to get out there. I did a great hike a few weeks ago to one of my favorite spots, Rip Rap Hollow. It was there that I went on my first real hike after chemotherapy, so it will remain a special place to me for the rest of my life.

Carpe Diem! Art

Hi Art,

Yes, nature is incredible. I find it very healing and restorative and inspirational. Nature to me feels very much like sacred space.

I am honored that you would think of my blog as inspiration!
I am very much in awe of what you do. Cancer has touched my family as well, so I am very inspired by your attitude of service to others and promoting health and well being. I think I may even lace up my running shoes again! I have "dabbled" in running before, but it might be a good idea to try to get my mileage up.

Thanks for reading!

I agree about nature feeling like sacred space. I wish more humans treated it as such.

Sure your blog is inspirational, Anne. Maybe someone will look at your wonderful garden photos or read about your sandwich and decide to plant a garden again. Maybe someone will see your gorgeous photos of Yosemite and decide they must go there, or to some other park. Maybe someone will just decide to take a hike or ride a bike or raft down a river, and appreciate nature a bit more. Maybe someone will read about the Dalai Lama and think more about the human condition. Or maybe someone like me will be inspired to start their own blog about their hikes (when I have the time). :)

Thanks for your kind words. I am most lucky to still be on God's green earth and am very grateful not only to be here, but to be healthy and strong. Trying to make a positive difference is the least that I can do in gratitude. If even one person who has cancer can be inspired by what I have done to not give up, to stay positive, to get well, and to try to make a difference then that is just great.

I hope that your family members with cancer are doing OK. I have a sister and brother dealing with it right now, much to my dismay.

Whether you lace up those running shoes or not, keep lacing up those hiking boots, Anne! And keep telling us all about it!

Enjoy the day! Art

Thanks Anne! Well, as your most recent post said, we can use words to be positive and encouraging, or not, right? You sound like a wonderful and positive person. I am glad that I happened upon your blog and to make a connection also.

Have a great day! Art
